Energy Lam |
2016 ICDA X UM Dance Troupe – a Dance Exchange and Performance of Graded Exam Materials
Date: 30 Oct 2016 Venue: UHall of University of Macau Ieng Chi Dance Association and the University of Macau Dance Troupe co-organized a very educative dance event on the 30th October 2016 at the University Hall of the University of Macau, which was a performance to show the learning process and results of dance students at various educational levels – ranging from young kids learning the basic syllabus of graded dance exams of the Beijing Dance Academy to mature dancers who performed in professional contexts. The performance opened with a dance choreographed by an ICDA dance instructor and performed by the UM Dance Troupe members, followed by the performances of students from grade 4t o grade 13 of the Beijing Dance Academy’s Chinese Dance graded exam and Balled graded exam to demonstrate the exam materials as well as extended pieces choreographed with such materials. The performance ended with a piece “As the water flows", which was the dance performed by ICDA during its invited performance at the the 5th Minorities Art Festival of China. Like shooting the growing process of a dancer for the audience, the performance demonstrated the growth and learning progress through ascending arrangement of the exam materials. Ieng Chi Dance Association was truly honoured to have Mr. Paul Pang (Director of the Student Affairs Office) and Ms. Leona Kuan (Director of the Human Resources Office) of the University to attend the performance and motivate the development of art education at the University level. ICDA also wanted to express deep gratitude towards its members and their parents, and the production crew as their unique support was the running force behind this first attempt to organize an educational showcase with exchanging sessions and made this performance possible within such a short period of time. All these help to build up the education motive of ICDA – to nurture the passion and confidence of students, to introduce the multi-faceted nature of art creation, and to promote dance education to the public through organising more purposeful and meaningful performances. ICDA hoped the audience enjoyed the show and got to know more about the effort and time these students paid to learn something they cherished a lot. It also hoped that the public could know more about the graded examination syllabus of the Beijing Dance Academy, which is of the greatest scale of its kind in China and contributed a lot towards the development of art education for the public. ICDA thanked everyone who participated in the performance for writing a new page for dance education in Macao! Photo Credit: Energy Lam |
